READ: Mysterious Lights Above Capitol Hill Spark Debate Over UFOs or Lens Flares

A series of mysterious lights appearing above the US Capitol building last week has captured widespread attention, fueling debates ranging from UFO theories to natural explanations. While some claim the lights are evidence of extraterrestrial activity, skeptics have pointed to more mundane causes. The sighting comes at a time of heightened interest in UFOs, following recent congressional hearings on alleged government involvement with alien technology and whistleblower intimidation.

The phenomenon was brought to public attention through a snapshot taken by Dennis Diggins, a US Air Force veteran and licensed tour guide. His photograph, showing four glowing lights above the Statue of Freedom atop the Capitol dome, quickly went viral. A video captured from another angle added fuel to the fire, sparking a wave of speculation and fear among netizens. Many questioned how these lights could have appeared so suddenly and why they seemed to hover in a formation.

This incident follows closely on the heels of congressional hearings where witnesses discussed controversial topics, including alleged secret government programs aimed at retrieving alien spacecraft, potential communication with non-human intelligence, and reported efforts to silence whistleblowers. While these claims remain unsubstantiated, the timing of the Capitol light sightings has prompted many to connect the two events, reigniting interest in the UFO phenomenon.

Adding further intrigue, the Pentagon released a report earlier this year stating it had found no definitive evidence of extraterrestrial spacecraft. However, the combination of recent testimony and now these mysterious lights has left many questioning whether there’s more than meets the eye.

Not everyone is convinced these lights are otherworldly. John Greenewald, Jr., a researcher and ufologist, was quick to dismiss the claims, suggesting the phenomenon was a familiar one caused by reflections in the camera lens. “The lights at the U.S. Capitol building have been causing ‘UFO sightings’ in the camera lens for decades & decades,” Greenewald wrote on X (formerly Twitter). He added, “(Just lens flares, but interesting someone is passing them around, again, and more so interesting people are buying it. New photo, same lens flare ‘phenomenon’).”

Others have echoed Greenewald’s explanation, pointing out that Capitol’s bright lighting and unique architecture are prime conditions for creating camera-based reflections that have long been misinterpreted as UFO sightings. Such optical phenomena have been well-documented for decades, yet they continue to fuel speculation. Others suggest that unique atmospheric conditions could be responsible, with reflections or distortions in the night sky creating the illusion of mysterious lights hovering above the Capitol dome.

The timing of the sighting alongside recent congressional hearings also invites speculation about a coordinated effort. Could this be an intentional attempt to manipulate public perception of UFOs, either to downplay or heighten interest in extraterrestrial phenomena? As speculation swirls, the mystery of the Capitol lights remains unresolved. Are we witnessing the mundane effects of light and camera interplay, or could there be a deeper, more cosmic explanation? For now, the answers remain as elusive as the lights themselves.
